چکیده
Methods |After obtaining informed consent, 3 bilateral superselective intraophthalmic artery chemotherapy treatments were performed 1 month apart, following a previously described protocol.1 Each infusion consisted of 2.5 mg of melphalan in30mLof salineat a rate of 1 mL/min for 30 minutes per eye. ARetCam 1300 lens (Clarity Medical Systems) was used to take serial fundus photographs and videos. The frequency of the imagingwas adjusted according to the findings. Care was taken to avoid applying pressure to the eye. Results | First Treatment. Results of the first treatment were reported in detail elsewhere.1 In the right eye, signs of widespread chorioretinal ischemia includingpulsatile pallor of the optic nerve, sectoral choroidal blanching, retinal arterial thinning, and intra-arterial retinal precipitates (IARPs) were noticed 16minutes into the infusion. The infusionwas immediately aborted and the IARPs persisted for 4.5 minutes. In the left eye, pulsatile pallor of the optic nerve, sectoral choroidal blanching, andmarkedretinalarterial thinning followedby loss of the blood column along the arterial and venous tree were intermittently recorded during the infusion. Immediate revascularization was noticed following temporary interruption of the infusion. No IARPs were detected. Treatment was completed.

Real-time ophthalmoscopic findings of superselective intraophthalmic artery chemotherapy in a nonhuman primate model.
OBJECTIVE To report real-time ophthalmoscopic findings during superselective intraophthalmic artery chemotherapy (SSIOAC) in a nonhuman primate model. METHODS Six adult male Rhesus macaques (Macacca mulatta) were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatment cohorts: melphalan (5 mg/30 mL) or carboplatin (30 mg/30 mL). Each animal underwent 3 separate SSIOAC procedures at 3-week intervals. Digital re...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to examine whether the retinal circulation in the pig can be accessed using interventional neuroradiology and to explore the possibility of creating occlusions that result in experimental retinal ischemia. METHODS Six experiments were performed using 100-kg pigs. The external carotid system was catheterized using a fluoroscopy-monitored, transfemoral, endovas...

PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to report the complication profile and safety evaluation of supraselective intra-arterial melphalan chemotherapy in children undergoing treatment with advanced retinoblastoma. METHODS Twelve eyes of 10 children with advanced retinoblastoma (Reese-Ellsworth Group Vb or International Classification Group D) were treated with supraselective intra-ophthalmic a...
متن کاملThe role of blood flow in glaucoma
The arterial supply to the eye arises primarily from the ophthalmic artery (OA), which is the first branch of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and is approximately 0.5 mm in diameter. The OA branches into the central retinal artery (CRA) and one to five posterior ciliary trunks which divide into multiple branches forming separate groups of the main posterior ciliary arteries (PCA). The PCA bra...

Background: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a myeloproliferative hematopoietic malignancy with a heterogeneous proliferation of hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow. The ocular manifestations are rare symptoms of CML. In this case report, a CML patient with retinal hemorrhage is reported as an uncommon symptom. Case presentation: A 35-year-old man was referred due to decreased right eye vi...
